Vitamin E

Vitamin/Mixed tocopherols

bulk/capsule/tablet

Vitamin E is an important nutrient because it supplies oxygen to the heart and other muscles in the body. It is essential for maintaining optimum health of the red blood cells by prolonging their useful life.

Much of its usefulness stems from its role as a powerful antioxidant and anti-carcinogen. Both this role and the synergy of Vitamin E with selenium, another antioxidant. Prevents the rancidity caused by oxidation of polyunsaturated fats (PUFA), and thus prevent the free radical damage. Protects Vitamin A and C from oxidation, thus keeping them potent.

It helps increase the body's level of superoxide dismutase, an enzyme that, like Vitamin E itself, is a powerful free radical scavenger.

Protects the body from mercury, lead, carbon tetrachloride, benzene, ozone, nitrous oxide, and a variety of other carcinogens and toxins. Prevents the formation of nitrosamines from nitrites and nitrates found in cured meats, cigarette smoke, and polluted air.

Recent studies suggests that this nutrient plays a vital role in the prevention of aging-related degenerative diseases, such as cancer (lung, esophageal, colorectal & possibly cervix and breast) and cardiovascular disease. Out of 22,000 males who consumed 100-249 iu per day (an amount impossible to get from food alone) for at least 2 years enjoyed a 40% reduction in risk of heart disease. Also subjects who received at least 400 iu per day experienced a decrease in the susceptibility of LDL cholesterol to oxidation from free radicals.

Vitamin E may also play a role in the healing of wounds and the reduction of scar formation. Apply the Vitamin E oil topically to wound after a scab has formed to promote healing & reduce scarring.

In women, Vitamin E has helped lessen fibrocystic breast disease (benign lumps). Also helps alleviate the symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS). Reduces excess bleeding and "hot flashes" in menopausal women. Also minimizes the tendency of blood platelets to stick together (aggregate, which may result in a stroke) in women who take oral contraceptives.

New uses and functions are being constantly discovered. Other uses include: 1)the reduction for insulin in diabetes by improving insulin function and reducing the oxidative stress that leads to many of the side effects of diabetes 2)along with Vitamin C & Beta Carotene, may protect against cataracts 3)helpful in the treatment of lipofuscin ("age" or "liver" spots) 4)may also be important for the normal functioning of the nervous system, shown to be helpful in children with neuromuscular disease & older patients with neurological problems & in treating Parkinson's disease 5)improves blood flow to the extremities 6)helps increase the level of high-density lipoproteins (HDLs, the "good" cholesterol).
