occasional or chronic constipation and associated symptoms. Senna contains anthraquinone and is quite powerful. Senna leaves (Cassia senna) contain a powerful natural laxative chemical called anthraquinone. It should not be taken over long periods of time, during pregnancy, or while nursing.
Professional advice is recommended if pregnant, nursing, taking medication, or if you have a medical condition. Do not use if you develop diarrhea, loose stools or abdominal pain. Do not take if you have an existing digestive problem. Overuse of senna can cause lazy bowel syndrome (i.e., your bowels depend on senna to work properly); do not use for more than 3 consecutive days.
