Its root has been used for hundreds of years for its antibiotic properties. Oregon Root acts in many ways like Goldenseal; in many cases, the two can be used interchangeably.

Oregon grape reduces smooth muscle spasms and stimulates digestive function.

Contraindications: Should not be used during pregnancy. Should not be used by patients with liver damage or hepatitis, as it may cause jaundice.
