Your Access to Vitamins and Supplements
may be taken
away by the U.S. Congress.
We felt that it was important to let you know about a new proposal in the
US Senate that could eliminate your access to the vitamins and supplements
you rely on. Some legislators are proposing extreme measures that would
allow the FDA to regulate your vitamins and supplements like prescription
medications. This means you could lose access to many of the supplements
that you take regularly, such as Multivitamins, Vitamin C, Vitamin E,
Calcium, and Glucosamine just to name a few. Can you imagine paying
prescription drug prices for the products that you rely on? This is what
this new legislation could mean to you.
You can make a difference!
IMPORTANT: Please
E-mail, phone, fax or write your Congressman Today!
Let your voice be heard. Please act now before it is
too late. Don't let your access to Vitamins and Supplements become
political folly for special-interest groups with you paying the bill.

Study Supports Green Tea’s
Anti-Cancer Effects
Drinking
more than four cups of green tea a day may prevent the growth of cancer cells,
according to a new study.
In a study conducted by researchers at
Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., researchers found a compound called
epigallocatechin gallate, or EGCg, blocks an enzyme needed for cancer cell
growth and can destroy cancer cells without harming surrounding healthy cells.
This green tea compound appears to interact
with an enzyme involved in the development of breast cancer, prostate cancer and
colon cancer. When the compound comes into contact with these cancer cells, it
prevents the cells from reaching the minimum size needed to divide and grow,
therefore forcing the cells to die.
Researchers compared this growth-inhibiting
effect in both green and black tea leaves. Green tea proved to be 10 times to
100 times more potent than black tea in blocking the growth of cancer cells. The
difference between black tea and green tea is that black tea leaves are dried
and processed after they are picked. Green tea leaves are steamed, which
preserves this natural cancer-fighting compound, researchers say.
This study was presented Monday at the 38th
annual meeting of the American Society for Cell Biology in San Francisco.
More Evidence on Green Tea
A
new study by a team of Swedish researchers adds support to the growing body of
evidence that green tea contains compounds that fight cancer.
Drs. Yihai Cao and Renhai Cao of the
Karolinska Institute in Stockholm found green tea contains a compound called
epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), which helps inhibit blood vessel growth. This
could be useful in preventing tumors from forming new blood vessels, which they
need to survive. In a study on mice, the researchers also found animals fed
green tea showed a 55-percent to 70-percent reduction in blood vessel
development in the cornea of the eye, a finding that could prove helpful to
diabetics suffering from retinopathy, researchers say.
Other studies have shown EGCG blocked an
enzyme needed for cancer
cell growth and kept cells from becoming cancerous without harming surrounding
healthy cells. The researchers point out heavy consumption of green tea may not
be beneficial for women who are pregnant or for people recovering from wounds,
conditions that both require blood vessel development.
This study appears in the April 1 issue of Nature.

What's the FDA
Trying to Feed Us?
Genetically engineered (GE) foods are
created by inserting genes from plants, animals, viruses or bacteria into
another plant or animal, often crossing species. This completely unnatural
process creates novel foods unlike any we've consumed before. GE foods are
already in our food supply -- up to 70% of all processed foods have GE
ingredients -- yet, there has been no independent safety testing to evaluate
their effect on human health or the environment. GE foods are not labeled as
such or independently tested because FDA believes them "substantially
equivalent" to conventional foods and therefore are "generally
recognized as safe."
Without labeling and pre-market safety standards, you don't know exactly
what you're buying and eating. To keep your natural foods choice, your voice
and action are needed today! Got
to www.keepnatural.org and send the
FDA an email to let them know you want mandatory labeling of all GE foods! LABEL

USDA Releases Final Organic Rule
WASHINGTON--The U.S. Department of Agriculture
(USDA) today released its final rule for implementation of the
National Organic Program (NOP). A decade in the making, the rule is a
prime example of a private-public partnership, said outgoing U.S.
Secretary of Agriculture, Dan Glickman. "We said that we would
deliver standards that could be embraced by farmers, industry and
consumers alike, and we have done exactly that," he said.
"Now it's time to take the next steps to fully embrace organic
agriculture and give it a more prominent role in the farm policy of
the 21st century."

- Inhaled Pepper Oil Helps Elderly Patients
HEALTH NEWS BYTE (Thursday, October 26, 2006)
Elderly patients who have trouble swallowing have a new
friend in pepper oil, Japanese researchers discover. In a study published in
the Journal of the American Geriatric Society, researchers at Tohoku
University found that the aroma of black pepper oil helps ease the pain of
swallowing for patients with pneumonia, physical handicaps and other
disorders that affect seniors. The study was conducted at nursing homes in
the city of Sendai, Japan, where researchers administered mild black pepper
oil and lavender aromatherapy to a group of geriatric patients. After one
month of daily therapy, patients' average swallowing reflex time improved
from 17.6 seconds to 4.4 seconds. Researchers concluded that black pepper
oil may be highly beneficial for all elderly patients with aspiration
pneumonia.
What This Means for You
Black pepper oil is a known appetite stimulant that can improve eating
and digestion in hospitalized patients. In addition, in some Eastern
cultures black pepper's volatile oil is used to ease the pain of rheumatic
arthritis and other bodily discomforts.

A Nutritional
Supplement for Healthy Individuals Desiring More Natural Energy
A Clinical Trial Reports Proven
Energy Enhancement Using Strict FDA Testing Guidelines to Alleviate Symptoms of Chronic
Fatigue Syndrome
WASHINGTON, DC, (February 23, 1999) - - Menuco Corporation
announced today that ENADA®, a natural energy-enhancing nutritional supplement, tested by
researchers at Georgetown University Medical Center, has achieved significant improvement
in relieving the symptoms of people suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). CFS is
a debilitating disorder caused by unexplainable tiredness or lack of energy, and has no
known cure. According to the Centers for Disease Control, over 14 million people in the
U.S. experience chronic fatigue symptoms. The Georgetown clinical trials focused on people
diagnosed with CFS; however, ENADA is also a nutritional supplement for healthy
individuals who desire additional energy.
ENADA is one of the first nutritional supplements to be tested
using strict FDA guidelines to determine its safety and effectiveness.
Georgetown doctors found that 31% of the patients who took ENADA
achieved significant improvement in the relief of their symptoms. In a follow-up study,

Garlic may
prevent plaque build-up in arteries
NEW YORK, Jun 22 (Reuters Health)
-- While previous studies have highlighted the heart-healthy benefits of garlic, including
lower blood cholesterol levels, results of a new study suggest that garlic prevents, and
may even reduce, the build-up of fatty plaque in arteries.
In a 4-year study of 280 adults, German
researchers report that participants who took 900 milligrams of garlic powder per day had
up to 18% less plaque in their arteries than those who took a placebo or "dummy"
powder.
Fatty plaque is comprised of many
substances including cholesterol. When plaque accumulates in the coronary arteries, the
condition can lead to heart attack.
In the study, published in the journal
Atherosclerosis, the research team reports that male study participants who took placebo
had a 5.5% increase in plaque volume, while those who took the garlic powder experienced
just a 1.1% increase in plaque build-up during the 4-year study period.

COFFEE VERSUS TEA: An Oolong, Please, And There's
No Rush
By Judith Weinraub
Washington Post Staff Writer
Wednesday, March 17, 1999
Tea drinkers are sensitive, health-conscious,
contemplative types. They can be fussy--they know their teas and often have strong
preferences about which one they want when. But they can be laid back too.
They like to sip their tea sitting down, lingering over it,
savoring the aroma, the color, the taste. They appreciate a finely crafted porcelain cup
and saucer or hand-wrought mug for their tea--never a paper cup.
And they're patient. Serious tea drinkers have
to be because...<cont'd>
