The Bible mentions Myrrh as one of the three precious gifts presented to the baby Jesus by the wise men. Ancient Greeks and Romans used Myrrh to treat wounds and digestive problems.

Modern Chinese researchers have discovered that Myrrh can help kill the bacteriaMyrrh that lead to tooth decay and gum disease. It stimulates the production of white blood cells, which also fight infection. It's a good local antiseptic with broad-spectrum antibacterial and antiviral action good for treating wounds, and especially mouth sores and throat inflammations which can be caused by bacterium, fungus, a virus or an allergy. It's usually a prominent ingredient in natural mouthwashes and toothpastes. You can dab a little tincture of Myrrh on a cotton swab and use it locally to relieve mild tooth pain, bleeding gums, canker sores and gingivitis or put some in water and use it as a wash to eliminate bad breath and treat sore throats.

Myrrh may also relieve chronic diarrhea and some early studies have indicated that it may even reduce blood cholesterol.

  • Recommended Dosage
Capsules: Two to six capsules three times daily.
Infusion: Up to two cups daily.
Tincture: One-quarter to one teaspoon three times daily.
Mouthwash or Gargle: Use as needed.
