A Remedy
For
In folk medicine, Blue Mallow has also been used for stomach
inflammation, bladder problems, and wounds. It has been proven effective,
however, only for upper respiratory irritation.
What It Is; Why It Works
Blue Mallow is found in subtropical and temperate latitudes
all over the world. A leafy plant growing up to 4 feet in height, it
produces bright purple flowers with long dark stripes.
Blue Mallow soothes irritated membranes by coating them with a smooth,
syrupy material. The leaves and flowers are both used medicinally--but only
when the more effective Marshmallow is unavailable.
Avoid If...
No known medical conditions preclude the use of Blue Mallow.

Possible Drug Interactions

Special Information If You Are Pregnant or Breastfeeding
No harmful effects are known.
How to Prepare
To make tea from Blue Mallow flower, add 1.5 to 2 grams of
crushed flowers to cold water and boil. Strain after 10 minutes.
For a tea from the plant's leaves, pour about two-thirds of a cup of boiling
water over 3 to 5 grams (about 2 teaspoonfuls) of the herb and steep for 2
to 3 hours, stirring occasionally.
Typical Dosage
The usual dosage of both the flower and the leaf is 5 grams
daily.
