| Modern research confirms
ancient Chinese tradition. Chrysanthemum has been used to treat
hypertension. Ju Hua flower preparations have an inhibitory effect in vitro
against some bacteria and viruses. Preparations given orally or as
injections lowered blood pressure. One study was performed with 1,000
subjects to see whether Ju Hua would prevent colds. A Ju Hua decoction was
taken once a month by people with histories of infrequent colds, twice a
month by those with three to five colds a year, and weekly by those with
frequent colds. Comparison with their own histories showed a 13.2-percent
reduction in frequency, but a greater frequency in comparison with the
controls. At the same time, another clinical series of 119 cases of chronic
bronchitis was observed. Using the same decoction, this group experienced a
38-percent reduction in acute attacks in comparison with their seasonally
adjusted rate for the previous year.
Chrysanthemum goes well with other
herbs, either as an infusion (steeped) or decoction (boiled), as a palate-pleasing
relaxant and cold-preventative.

show that if you take crysanthemum 3 times per day everyday, in a hundred
days you would feel your body very light, and your white hair will grow
black; in two years time your fallen teeth will grow back again; and in five
years times an old man of 80 years of age who constantly consumes Ju Hua can
build his health that can parallel that of a healthy child. These records
prove that Ju Hua can promise longevity.
