  • Antidote for Blood Poisoning and Weight-Control

Chickweed is a terrific blood cleaner. Where there exists a threat of blood poisoning or tetanus due to dirt or chemical dye getting into the bloodstream, make the following poultice: Blend together one tablespoon each of powdered Ginger, Cayenne Capsicum, and Kelp. Add equal parts of just enough honey and wheat germ oil to form a smooth paste. Spread this on a clean gauze and apply to affected area. Cover and leave on for up to seven hours, before changing again, if necessary. The same steps can be used to alleviate carbuncles, boils, venereal disease, herpes, sores, swollen testicles and breasts, and so on.

Brings comfort to chronic itching and severe rashes. Make a salve using 1½ cups of cut and sifted Chickweed, 2 cups virgin olive oil, and 6 tablespoons of Beeswax. Warm up the oil and beeswax on medium heat in pan. Combine with Chickweed in a skillet or roasting pan and place in oven on "warm" setting for two hours. Then strain through a fine wire strainer and place in small clean jars and seal tightly while still fairly hot.

This herb also has a reputation as a "slimmer". A great weight-reducing program that has helped many involves mixing your own herbal medication and tea. Start with these powdered herbs--5 parts Kelp, 1 part Cascara Sagrada, 1 part Senna Leaf, 1 part Cinnamon, and 1 part Licorice Root. Combine the herbs and fill some "00" size gelatin capsules and take 1-2 three time daily, before meals.

Also, it may offer relief for the symptoms of bronchitis, coughs, colds, inflammation and it may be used as a laxative. A decoction is used to treat constipation.

To make the herbal tea, combine equal parts of Chickweed, Cleavers or Bedstraw, and Fennel Seed--or approximately 2½ tablespoon of the same in one pint of boiling water. Let steep for about 30 minutes.
